Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. Frances Cabrini Parish,

Last weekend, I shared with you an update on Fr. Gil’s condition. I explained that the prior week, Fr. Gil had a critical moment where his vital signs began to crash. He was moved to the Emergency Department at St. Catherine’s Hospital and eventually to the ICU. I regret to inform you that Fr. Gil’s condition has not improved. In fact, the medical team that has been treating him informed him and his family that there are no further medical interventions that will be of benefit to him. Therefore, Fr. Gil decided to be transferred to Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson to spend the final days of his journey home to the Eternal Father.

I know this news will be shocking and saddening to everyone. Yet, we also know that Good Friday does not have the final word – Easter Sunday always does! The Resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of our faith. And it has been the foundation of Fr. Gil’s life and ministry. You all know that and have seen how Fr. Gil ministered in that confidence. We now entrust him to the Heart of Christ, the High Priest.

Fr. Gil will not be receiving visitors at this time except for family and brother clergy. In your charity, please ask the intercession of the Blessed Mother, St. Joseph, and our patroness, St. Francis Cabrini, that Fr. Gil may peacefully and faithfully enter eternal life to receive the reward promised to this good and faithful servant.
